I know that there are so many people out there that suffer with spots well into their 20's, I think sometimes acne and spots are seen to be a problem confined to teenage skin... that's obviously not the case. I've had spots for as long as I can remember to be honest, I started getting them when I was about 11 in primary school; I got the old favourite names such as pizza face and although it bothered me I was convinced it was only temporary, that I would grow out of them.
Then I got to 16 and ready to leave secondary school, they were still there and had now become more prominent on my back as well as my face. The only thing that seemed to help them clear was the combined pill... I had about 18 months where my skin was pretty much clear, both on my back and my face but then I came off the pill and had to go on the injection when I was 18 (to cut a long story short I was on medication which stopped the pill working) and my problems started again. I absolutely PILED weight on, within a month I think I gained 2 stone and my spots were back with a vengeance. Since then I've never managed to lose the weight and the spots are still there, even though I'm not on the injection.
As you can see, I don't just have the 'odd one' at a certain time of month. They are pretty much all over. My forehead isn't so bad but I get a lot around my mouth area and a few on my cheeks. They're just so unsightly and really quite difficult to cover up because they tend to dry up which can then make the foundation cake and go patchy. I have been upping my efforts with skincare lately as you know, I have more of a routine now and I do see improvements and then all of a sudden, without me changing anything, I'll just get an outbreak and I have absolutely no idea why. That's what's so frustrating. I realise that my diet isn't the best but I do try and eat fruit and/or veg every day and I try and drink at least 2/3 pints of water every day. Yes I should probably more strict when it comes to my diet but I see loads of people who's diet is a lot worse than mine, and they have great looking skin. I've tried Seven Seas hair, skin and nails supplements and I did start to see a difference but then all of a sudden it was as if my body said 'no, not going to let those help me anymore!' I feel like I've tried anything and to be honest I'm pretty much at the end of my tether now.
I don't expect my skin to be perfect, but at 22 I didn't still expect to have a face like a dot to dot puzzle. If I can't get rid of the spots, I'd at least like to be able to cover them up properly and make them stay covered instead of having a cakey face of patchy product! I'm going to do an updated skincare post within the next week just so you can see what I've been using... my skin seems as if it loves products to start with and reacts really well and then with some of those products it'll just go mental!
Have you got any tips on how to help spots? Any supplements, good foods or other treatments? I'm open to all suggestions!
